Sleep is important for children development because it is the time that their bodies can rest and grow. However, for many children, sleeping is not fun. Sometimes, children’s bedtime becomes problems for parents who may have to be on the bedside until children fall asleep. This causes some stresses to parents as well. So, let’s learn the simple techniques for keeping your kids in bed without any crying.
• Go to bed at the same time every day
• Turn off television, video games, and computer at least 30 minutes before bedtime
• Before getting into bed, let the children finish all regular activities such as using bathroom, washing their hands, and brushing their teeth
• Before sleep, always do a relaxing activity such as reading bedtime stories
• The bedroom should have suitable temperature, good ventilation and be adequately dark
• There should be no television and video game in the bedroom
• Tell kids to lay down and stay still in bed, then say good night to parents
• If your children can stay in bed long enough and completely finish all activities’ procedures, tell them your admiration in the next morning
If getting kids into bed is not yet successful, as they do not lie down and stay still in bed, try the followings.
• Find out if they are afraid of anything. Sometimes, leaving the light slightly turned on, or checking around the room to show them that there is nothing to fear of, will help children feel safer.
• If children cry out and protest against the desired bedtime, let them lie down and cry alone for a while until they nearly stop crying, then get into the bedroom and check it out again. If they continuously cry, or keep calling the parents, you must wait further, and do not rush to see them, until they begin to stop crying, then you can go inside the bedroom.
• Tell your children that it is the bedtime. Also tell them that, if they do not cry and stay still in bed, you will come again to see if they are already asleep
