Insect bites usually do not cause any severe effect that is harmful to life. However, itchiness around the bitten area can be torture for the baby. If the baby scratch the sore pimple to bleed, it may be infected or cause severe allergy, immediately resulting in big problems. Therefore, it is essential for mother to know how to do when your baby is bitten by insects.
• Spider bites Wash the bitten area with soap and water, then compress with cool towel and followed by taking pain killer, if the baby has pains. To prevent infection, apply the antibacterial balm and always wash the baby’s hands and always keep them clean. If suspicious of deadly poisonous spiders, use ice to compress the baby’s bitten area and immediately take the baby to the doctor.
• Bloodsucking insects (tick, flea, mite) If you are not sure which insect bit your baby, use pliers to nip the insect’s head or mouth and pull out from the skin, then keep it in a bag for doctor’s consideration later on (in case that your child suffer strange symptom more than normal itching and headache). In addition, the affected skin should be cleaned by wiping a piece of cotton soaked with alcohol on the bitten spot.
• Bee and Wasp Stung A bee stings only once. After that, it leaves a sting in the stung spot. The sting must be taken out as soon as possible because it is poisonous. In comparison, wasps do not leave any sting after it has stung, meaning that wasps can sting more than once. To remedy the bee and wasp stung, wash the stung area on skin by soap and water, then compress the affected area with the cloth-wrapped ice, or a cloth soaked with very cold water, for 2-3 minutes. Then, take the baby to the doctor immediately if noticed that there is a warning
sign of severe allergy which is causes extremely serious harms.
