Children love water, especially the young ones. They can spend hours in the pool without getting bored. But for some reason, when it comes to bath time, some children just shake their heads. Here's how to train your child to enjoy a bath or a shower.
It is important for a child to be able to take a shower on his own because it is his responsibility. He needs to be able to take care of himself, and the hygienic habit needs to be taught from childhood so that he grows up to be a hygienic adult. Pre-schoolers should be able to do basic personal care such as taking a shower, washing their face, brushing their teeth and going to the bathroom.
Teaching your child to take a shower can be a fun experience. Babi Mild has some tips to make it even more fun.
How to make a shower fun
• Pick shower items that your child likes, such as colorful toothbrush, shampoo, soap, sponge and shower cap. Make sure the items are suitable for his age, and the products are suitable for children's delicate hair and skin.
• Find some bath toys such as rubber duckies, bubble maker, bath tub book or toys that can be played in water. Naturally, children like to play, and any activity with toys involved is fun for them. This will also help them learn new things during a shower, sharpening their skills simultaneously.
• Sing, play music or create your own song. It can be songs about taking a bath, or use a familiar melody with your own lyric about bath time. If you sing it every day, your child will remember it and associate the activity with the lyric.
• You can start by taking a shower with your child to show him that it is fun. At this stage, children learn by copying their parents, so if you show your child how to do it and explain it to him, he will soon be able to do it on his own.
• Make bath time a routine. Set a schedule and encourage your child to take a bath at the same time every day, so that it becomes a habit. Give him compliments when he can do it, or use reward point system, such as one star for a bath, five stars for washing his hair, and so on. He can collect the stars and redeem a prize later. This will encourage him to do things on his own.
Tips on how to help him take a shower on his own
• Choose soap and shampoo that are suitable for children, without added chemicals.
• Even if your child enjoys his bath time, don't let him take a very long bath because he might get a cold.
• Make it a fun experience by taking him to other places, or add new options such as taking a shower or using a water hose. New experiences will make him enjoy bath time even more.
