What are the Signs of Developmental Delay?

Children development can be divided into 4 groups as followed:

1. Gross Motor Development
2. Fine Motor Development
3. Language Development
4. Social Development

Children development in each stage doesn’t have any specific standard. Those are only estimated milestones comparing to general development with the children in the same age range. Developmental Delays can be caused by both internal and external factors. For instance, sickness, infection from mother obtaining viruses like CMV, chickenpox, German measles, and Zika at the first three months of pregnancy, drug abuse during the pregnancy, the lack of oxygen at birth, brain damage from a concussion, and some other sicknesses after birth.

Raising environment can also affect child development. There are 2-3% of children having a developmental delay in Thailand. Half of them can identify the causes while the rest have no obvious factor. Some of them might be affected by genetic abnormalities. If there are any concerns about your baby’s development, you should consult with a doctor to find a reason to treat them as early as possible since it will result in better treatment.
