SIDS: A Silent Killer for Your Baby!

What is SIDS?

SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is rare, found in infants and young children aged less than 1 year old.

The cause of SIDS

• There are no definite causes for this syndrome which can happen in a healthy baby still. It’s believed that it can be caused by both internal and external factors such as;
• Soft materials like pillows and blankets block the baby’s respiratory tract.
• The lack of air from pressure in a baby who share the bed with parents.
• Genetic diseases
• Some illness such as heart disease. Safe sleeping postures for young children.

Risk prevention and reduction

There are many ways that may help prevent the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). for example, using a solid bed. Do not place a soft pillow or blanket on a bed. The CDC or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that the baby should not share the bed with the parents but can share the room and sleep on a baby's cot.
