Lazy eye is a condition which the children diagnosed with this disease can’t see as good as normal children. The other eye left unused will become hazy. Lazy eyes can be treated. The treatment will be most effective if treated before the age of eight.
The cause of lazy eyes
- Strabismus
- Eye disorders such as myopia, hypermetropia, or astigmatism.
- Caused by various eye diseases like retinal diseases or eye diseases that block the vision such as cataract or ptosis.
Lazy eyes treatment by causes
- Treatment in children with strabismus and crossed eyes: The doctor will close the good eye and force the child to use the strabismus eye. The vision may not be a hundred percent. However, if done regularly, it’ll encourage the use of lazy eye and stimulate eye activities in the child. The eyes will gradually adjust, and the child will eventually see normally, which is be able to see in the three-dimensional aspect. The duration of the eye-covering depends on the severity which is at least 2 to 6 hours a day.
- The child with eye disorders (myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism) is usually treated by wearing eyeglasses.
- If the child has a double vision or the eyes go into different directions when looking at something, it’s recommended to have an eye test with an ophthalmologist.
