What is febrile convulsion?
A febrile convulsion is a seizure caused by high fever. It usually occurs in children ages from 6 months to 5 years, happening from several causes. One of it is the infection of a body part. It’s not caused by the nervous system. Febrile convulsion can also come from epilepsy with a fever as a stimulant.
How should parents react when the children have febrile convulsion?
The parents should not panic. Lay the children on the back and turn the head to a side to prevent choking.
Don’t shake the patient or use a spoon to prevent biting the tongue because it may cause injury. When the seizures calm down, take the patient to the hospital.
When children have a febrile convulsion, will it happen again?
There are 30-40% chances of repeated seizures after the first time. Moreover, once a child has a febrile convulsion, there’re chances that they’ll develop epilepsy when grown up.
