Postpartum depression is found in up to 10%-15% of all depressed mothers. If a mother is depressed after giving birth over 2 weeks, then it’s considered postnatal depression. The condition can start at second week after birth (can happen after the baby is 4-6 weeks old or several months after that) and may last around 4 weeks (no longer than a month).
The causes of depression: There are several causes, from physical illnesses like thyroid hormone depletion to brain chemical abnormalities. For those with the symptom multiple times, it’s possible that some family members have been diagnosed with depression.
Postpartum depression indications: Mothers with postpartum depression may have some or all of these conditions.
Treatment guidelines: In addition to medication, psychotherapy, recreational activities, exercises, praying and meditating can also help the patient with the symptoms.
If there’re suspicious conditions, do not wait until the conditions become severe. Consult a doctor for treatment. The family is essential in caring for patients with depression as well.
