Winter is finally here, and in this weather, you have to be extra careful about your baby's skin, especially for a newborn whose skin is very delicate. Since the fat layer is very thin at this stage, young babies should be protected against coolness and the skin should be moisturized.
So, what can you do to make sure your baby's skin stay healthy this winter, despite not having much fat to protect the skin?
Baby oil can be a great option to keep your baby's skin soft, moisturized and hydrated. Just a few drops during a bath do the trick just fine.
What you need
1. Bath tub (If you give your baby a shower, prepare a small tub for mixing water with baby oil)
2. Natural baby oil
3. Baby sponge
How to mix baby oil
• Add 4-5 drops of baby oil into the tub and stir gently. You will notice that the oil will float on the surface, but that's not a problem. Once your baby is in the tub, the oil will coat the baby's skin.
• Gently pour water onto the baby's skin and use your hand or a sponge to rub the skin very gently, focusing on folds and creases so that the baby oil can help remove dirt from the skin.
• If you give your baby a shower, mix baby oil with water in a tub and splash the water on the baby's skin. You can also put a few drops of baby oil on your hand and rub two hands together before massaging your baby during a shower.
• After bathing, there is no need to use soap to remove baby oil. Gently towel-dry your baby and leave the baby oil on the skin. You can also massage your baby to make sure the skin absorbs the oil properly, and use baby powder to make the skin feel smoother.
Tip for mixing baby oil
• Baby oil mixes better with warm water. Warm water makes the oil blend better and absorb into the skin more easily.
• During a bath or a shower, gently massage your baby's arms, legs, back and feet to help him relax.
• If possible, try bathing in an open space, such as your backyard or lawn. It will make the bathing experience more enjoyable and fun.
• For new mothers who don't know where to start, try giving your baby a regular bath using baby soap. Rinse properly and change the water in the tub. Add some baby oil into the water and let your baby soak in there for a while. After that, towel dry your baby. This way, you can keep your baby's skin clean and moisturized.
