As the months go by, you must be getting more and more excited about your baby's development. Who does it look like? Is it healthy? But before the time comes when your baby greets the world, let's take a look what is going on inside your tummy in this trimester.
Your baby's development in the fourth month
Now your baby is about 15 cm long, and his nails are growing already. Some mothers might not feel the movement yet, but the fetus is quite active, moving its head and 40 other muscles. The eyes are still closed, but it can see the light.
Your baby's development in the fifth month
The part of the brain that controls feelings is developing fast, and the heartbeat is getting stronger. Meanwhile, a whitish membrane, called vernix caseosa, is coating your baby. It serves to protect the baby's delicate skin. The length of your baby is now about 22 cm.
Your baby's development in the sixth month
Your baby's hearing skills are improving. He can now identify some voices. He can also open his eyes a little. His skin is thicker now, but still quite transparent. Your doctor can listen to your baby's heartbeat more easily. The air sacs in the lungs are now fully developed, but the respiratory system is still incomplete. Your baby is about 30 cm long now, or about as long as a ruler, and weighs around 540 grams. Medically speaking, a baby born at 6 months can survive if provided with special care.
